自由人藝術公寓
台中「替代空間」（ALTERNATIVE SPACE）的缺席與反思從全台替代空間的發展脈絡來看，台灣北部已有伊通公園、VT非常廟藝文空間、新樂園藝術空間、竹圍工作室、南海藝廊…等等各型態展演替代空間；而在南部，有台灣新藝、新濱碼頭、文賢油漆工程行、57藝術工作室…等，唯獨中部地區沒有具指標性、相當規模的替代空間。
有鑑近年藝文產業的蓬勃現象，自由人藝術團隊相信，中部需要一個以在地模式運作、可以和全台串聯的新型態展演空間。2012年12月，自由人藝術公寓在顏寧志、蔡宗霖、劉森湧、黃彥超、莊培鑫、林珊如、林彥瑋、戴宛蓁、劉銘訓、顏培倫、顏翩翩、賴士超、許怡慈、李宜亞、李茗哲、林昌履，及幾位藝文相關從業者和贊助者共同協力下，正式於台中成立，以「台灣新生代藝術家培養皿」為目標，期待能在商業畫廊、官方美術館之外，打造屬於新生代藝術家的展覽場所。
空間特色
公寓，是城市特有的文化現象，據統計，台灣75%的人口居住於以公寓為主的集合式（collected）住宅。自由人藝術公寓是一棟完整的都會公寓，挑戰結合「住所－創作－展覽」的可能性，賦予各樓層不同的使用機能，其中有工作室、展演空間、教室等，統合了藝術家的生活起居、藝術創作、作品發表的各項需求，營造出適合藝術家創作生產的有機地。
藝術公寓的居住空間不同以往的駐村型態，是一棟獨立、完整的透天舊式建築，如同住家公寓，居住在裡頭的藝術家彷如另類的共同體，不僅是室友，彼此也在藝術生產的過程中，共享了實現理想的一致目標。我們將公寓注入不同型態的藝術能量，在台中市中心發酵為另類的藝術聚落，並活化周遭商圈/社區的藝文發展，並努力串聯台灣其他各地區展演替代空間。
空間目標
1. 提供藝術創作者真正沒有藝術派系、個性中立的展演空間，打造具有多元性格的展覽空間。
2. 以不預設立場、更開放、更透明化的展演申請機制，常態接受作品徵件，並每年固定策劃NOVART新秀展演。
3. 結合講座、課程、工作坊等多面向支點持續邁進，定期舉辦藝術家設計師交流之夜，促進國內藝術交流發展。
4. 努力成為台灣對外之國際藝術交流窗口，受理國內外藝術家駐村申請，促進跨國的藝術交流活動。
5. 定期推出藝術家聯合創作專案、藝術家和設計師的聯合創作，發展多元的跨域創作，以及不同藝術型態的可能。
6. 落實大眾藝術推廣、深植生活美學的理念，提供觀眾無拘束的藝文欣賞空間。
7. 成為台灣主要扶植年輕創作者的場所，朝向真正的"台灣新生代藝術培養皿"邁進。
8. 提供結合創作延伸的專業性質業務，包括商品發行、畫冊拍攝製作、攝影棚出租等，並協助展演補助申請等諮詢。
9. 建立比官方更完整的網路藝術資料庫，全面引介台灣當代藝術，並活化藝壇生態。
自由人藝術公寓除提供年輕、實驗的展出空間之外，在與藝術家建立長期的合作默契之下，自由人藝術團隊也積極推介年輕藝術家進入市場，尋找新秀發亮的舞台！
INTRODUCTION OF FREEDOM MEN APARTMENTS
Freedom Men Art Apartments, newly-founded at the end of 2012, is an alternative space for art in Taichung city, Taiwan.
Seen themselves as “Art Cultivator for the New Generation Artisits in Taiwan” ten members have been working in tanden with each other for Freedom Men Art Aprtment in the hope of opening up an independent art space for young artists, different from business galleries or museums of fine arts.
Apart from Taichung City, there are iconic alternative art spaces in the north and the south of Taiwan, such as IT Park, VT Artsalon, Taiwan New Arts, Sin Pink Pier, Paint House Studio. The team for Freedom Men Art Aprtmen is convinced that central Taiwan needs an independent local-based space to connect with the others and to promote contemporary art.
Freedom Men Art Apartment has a five-and-a-half-floored city apartment as the art space, challenging the possibility of the combination between residence, creation, and exhibition. Each floor is designed to meet a different purpose, such as workroom, exhibition space, and classroom, creating a new way to promote art and culture. In addition, we have been devoted ourselves to integrating the demands of artist’s daily life necessasity, art creation, and work presentation, and bring a new breeze of art into the apartment. Furthermore, we will also work with other alternative spaces in different cities with the effort of making Taichung a city of art, and prosper the art and culture activities in the neibhorhood.
