台灣國際紀錄片影展（前台灣國際紀錄片雙年展）自1998年創立，每兩年舉辦一次，曾於台北與台中國立美術館舉行，強調獨立觀點、創意精神與人文關懷，鼓勵對紀錄片美學的思考與實驗，是亞洲最重要的紀錄片影展之一。每屆影展歷時十天，播放約130部影片，吸引超過三萬人次觀眾參加。
自2014年起，台灣國際紀錄片影展改為每年舉辦，由國家電影資料館設立常態辦公室辦理，除國際競賽單元外，另設有亞洲視野競賽、台灣競賽等獎項，亦有數個觀摩單元，希冀引薦來自世界的多元作品與優秀紀錄片，透過放映與交流，推促亞洲與華人紀錄片的發展。
Founded in 1998, Taiwan International Documentary Festival, TIDF, is one of the major professional platforms for documentaries in Asia, looking for documentaries that are creative, relevant to social and human interests, and have unique points of view. We encourage innovative filmmakers and documentaries with experimental spirit. Each edition, TIDF screens around 130 films, creating some 30,000 visits.
In January, 2014, the former biennial event transformed into an annual documentary festival. TIDF executive team with a permanent office has been established under CTFA, responsible for the festival and documentary related affairs in Taiwan. TIDF presents various programmes each edition, including international competition, as well as Asian and Taiwanese competition, bringing quality documentaries together to create more connections amongst the world, Asian and Chinese documentaries.
