ESP-I PERFORMING ARTS GROUP was founded by the theatre director and performance curator Jocelyn Yuchia Chang and the members in 2008.
ESP-I is stemmed from the verb “espy,” meaning to be able to perceive things which are previously unnoticed or partially hidden. To perceive the “I” through the art of theatre is to let go of the true self and thereby to join with the initial “I.”
ESP-I Performing Arts Group believes that theatre should be flowing, multifaceted, and cross-border—the multi-sensory aesthetics of space. It therefore has been working with views of holistic education and Theatre Anthropology; it aspires to re-examine the value between self and space, and based on this it has been working on the production of original works, cross-cultural exchanges, and the promotion of The River Lab. Starting from the theatre, ESP-I Performing Arts Group hopes to bring its creation into multiple fields of life, and produces art that can be the common language for “espying oneself.”
