隱形風景
 
隱形風景作為她首次的策展計畫,藝術家魏欣姸邀請並召集了四位國際藝術家針對其與我散步做出發想與回應,並於海桐藝術中心展出作品。
 
魏欣姸的與我散步緣起於日本金澤。透過一朵花的交換之下,由在地居民領著她散步。共22位參與者與其互動,魏欣姸融入路途中的故事及經過,在21世紀美術館的Kanazawa Fringe中設計了兩條私人路線,帶領小團的觀眾遊覽。在途中刻意及不刻意創造出的親密中,她試圖扮演導遊、故事交換者等角色,引領著參與者繞行於城中充滿秘密的時刻和路途。
 
在隱形風景展覽之前,散步計畫持續與海桐藝術中心所在的大龍峒地區及他處居民一對一進行中。而在此次的展場內,參與者幻化成花瓶中不同姿態的花朵。觀眾也可選擇參與展期內不同場次的行為散步。與此同時,魏欣姸邀請藝術家針對與我散步、對城市街道、對引發的一切作出回應和新作。麻生祥子(日本)、安荷蕾德·戴維斯(英國)、黃慧文(香港)、齋藤雅宏(日本)各自從不同角度發想,發想詞彙包含:散步、路徑、花、點到點、在之間;而上述這些引領我們去重新看到那些沿途中被忽略掉的,讓隱形的再次現形。
 
麻生以布料製成的雕塑迂迴纏繞,彷彿像是一具具有機體的延伸。麻生似以軟雕塑代替肉身,具體化的形塑在熟悉的和異鄉的路途風景之間擺盪及行走;戴維斯也常以散步及隱匿的親暱作為作品發想的基調。在本次展覽中,她透過提前兩週的短暫駐村移地創作,探訪且記錄了台北十處戒酒無名會的活動場域。這些場域有些隱匿,有些則公開到令旁人輕易忽略。從展出的五件攝影中,我們仿若能描繪在地臺灣的戒酒成員互相傾吐自身風景;黃慧文的紀念品則從不同的角度詮釋城市風貌,她邀請觀眾或坐或臥於一張,以無數名民眾在英國白金漢宮前留下紀念黛安娜王妃的殘花風景所製成的勾毯。黃慧文將集體默哀的不可親歷史場景轉化為柔軟親和、甚至可以躺下和融入的可親風景;齋藤同樣邀請觀眾跨越物理上的界線,他的影像和裝置作品幽默趣味的批判質疑傳統、流行文化和獎懲制度的正當性。本次展出的藝術家們希冀能揭示、介入和重新詮釋這些被隱形於社會之中或人文或真實的風景。
 
魏欣姸的行為散步將於2/20, 21, 27, 28 及 3/2, 6,7, 9 的下午兩點及下午四點舉行。(約一小時)

Invisible Scenery
 
For her inaugural curatorial project, artist Hsinyen Wei, invites four international artists to create work for the group show, Invisible Scenery, in response to her project Walk with Me.
 
Wei’s project, Walk with Me, was originally conceived in Kanazawa, Japan. In exchange for a single flower, Wei invited local residents to guide her through their city. From these twenty-two walks and the stories that emerged during them, she devised two routes. Assuming the persona of local guide-come-storyteller, Wei led tours in which she confided personal intimacies and revealed learned fictions to the small groups she led through hidden parts of the city.
 
For Invisible Scenery, Wei continues her project this time with residents of the Haiton Centre’s Dalongdong neighborhood and beyond. In the gallery these participants are represented by single stems arranged together in the vase and a schedule of performances that run throughout the exhibition period. Displayed alongside are works selected and commissioned by Wei that respond to the city as she has done. The works by Shoko Aso (JP), Angharad Davies (UK), Ange Ong (HK) and Masahiro Saito (JP), take as their point of departure the series of words that emerged during Wei’s tours, fostering ideas of around walking, flora and fauna, in-betweens and interactions, and in doing so make the overlooked, passed-by and invisible, visible. 
 
Aso’s white cloth sculptures weave and twist like distended, searching bodies. Their form speaks to the intimate, yet alien relationship between fabric and flesh, the familiar and the foreign that Aso experienced whilst exploring Taipei on foot. Davies’ practice is also grounded in walking and hidden intimacies. For Invisible Scenery she searched out the ten locations across the city that currently host meetings for recovering alcoholics, documenting these interiors in the process. Her five photographs show the spaces in which, often unknown to staff or regular customers, chinese-speakers meet to confide in one another. Ong’s Souvenirs deals with a different mode of collectivity in the city as she invites visitors to gather on a latch-hook carpet depicting the flowers left in memory of Princess Diana. Her translation of an image of public mourning into a domestic object allows us to inhabit a usually inaccessible and pristine landscape. Saito also invites his audiences to cross material boundaries. His video and installation works playfully critique tradition, popular culture and reward systems that knowingly or unknowingly tether and guide our lives. By revealing them in this way, like the other artists shown here, he hopes to reveal, interrupt and reinterpret these invisible sceneries. 
 
Wei’s performances will take place at 2pm & 4pm on 2/20th, 21st, 27th, 28th & 3/2nd, 6th, 7th, 9th.
