Yang's Ensemble was established with the collaboration of Yang Ching-Hsiang, Tsai Yi-Ling, Jang Huen-Juin and Kate Stanislawski in Taipei, 2013. They encompassed the goal of “penetrating the spirit of the time and documenting contemporary phenomena” through their practices of allegorical texts and of embodying contemporary life from an intercultural perspective.
Yang, the art director, has embarked on theatre writing, screenwriting, directing, acting and teaching for recent years. In the working process in his participation in the “Toga Festival” in Japan, he came to the realization of “performance” as the premise of theatre works. The realization led him to the idea of breaking through the established conventions, and, with the principle of exploration, of setting up an “organic working-farm” for the performers and playwrights. The ensemble attempts to elaborate the uniqueness and possibilities of the language of contemporary theatre in Taiwan through actor training, workshops, exchanges of performing methods and techniques, and alternative methods of playwriting.
