造紙人的故事

曾經，這也是埔里鎮千百人共同的故事。

造紙的人們在各自的人生軸線上，攪進紙漿、搖晃、然後沈澱，用層層疊疊的紙纖維交織產業的更迭興衰與自己的悲歡離合。埋首在千絲萬縷之中，他們不斷洗滌、 淬礪，直到時間在他們身上也刷出了深深淺淺的簾紋。他們將自己的人生奉獻給紙張，用紙漿刻畫雙手的掌紋。於是，在這裡的每一張紙，都有半世紀的經驗累積和 手心的溫度，既輕薄、又厚重。

透過展覽，我們在造紙人製作的手工紙上，用圖像與物件留住造紙人的身影、拼貼描摹他們的故事，讓他們不再藏身紙幕背後。我們更希望，今後的他們不會只定格在照片裡兀自褪色，成為遙遠灰白的影像、或是平躺博物館中的史料。

紙張無聲，卻是故事的舞台、言說的起點。

Their Stories of Paper Making

Once, this was a story shared by thousands of Puli residents.

On their life axis, the paper making workers repeatedly stirred, shook and waited pulps to sink quietly into the bottom of the tank and used the paper fibers to weave the ups and downs of the industry and their own joys and sorrows. Buried in the fibers, they continued to wash and temper themselves through hardship, until time marked curtain patterns of various depths on their body. They have dedicated all their life to papers and marked their palm prints with pulps. Then, each sheet of paper manufactured here reflected experiences they accumulated more than half a century and felt warm at hand. The lightweight papers, however, felt somewhat heavy suddenly.

Through exhibitions, we seek to capture the images of those paper making workers and describe their stories through their images and personal belongings on the handmade papers manufactured by them. Therefore, they can finally step forward for our recognition. We also hope that from now on, the stories of those hard-working paper making workers will never fade away, be found only in yellow pictures, gray images or historical materials collected in the museum.
 

Tranquilly voiceless, papers nevertheless are the stage of the story and beginning point of words. Listen carefully, the papers are starting to tell their stories again – this time, the story is about..
