Daguan Gallery is proud to present the first exhibition in the new year – The Time of Flow. Cheuk has established herself as a meticulous artist soon after graduation, doing extremely well in art fairs and auction houses such as Sotheby’s and Ravenel. We are pleased to announce Cheuk Ka-wai, Cherie’s first solo exhibition in a commercial gallery and are delighted to publish her first exhibition catalogue.
Having just graduated from The Chinese University of Hong Kong with a Master’s degree, Cheuk is already an experienced exhibitor and frequent aware winner. She has exhibited and worked extensively internationally, including South Korea, Taipei, Beijing and Zhejiang. Her lively and meticulous depictions of animals are well received by collectors and the art market.
Judging from the style of Cheuk’s works, her meticulous paintings are influenced by the court paintings from Song dynasty which emphasises the delicate compositions and colours which are most elegant. She not only pays particular attention to the portrayal of light and space, but emphasises on the overall picture as a whole – something that often appeared in the art and literature from the early dynasties, a strong sense of towards the untouchable flow of time.
The paintings included in this exhibition may appear to be lively and sweet, yet many of them aim to discuss the meaning of life from a philosophical angle. Each painting displays a scene taken from this colourful world, living the life in contentment. This journey through time led by Cheuk Ka-wai is woven with magical creatures from fairy tales and picturesque art worlds; the artist invites the viewers to leave the reality behind and immerse themselves in the boundless imaginary world.
